Mehdi Monem
Mehdi Monem was born in 1961 in Rasht, Iran, and is a self-taught photographer. He began working as a photojournalist for the Iranian News Agency (IRNA) in the early 1980s and spent five years photographing the front during the Iran–Iraq war, including several military operations. Since the end of the war, his work has focused on its effects on people. His first book, The Miracle of Hope (1992), portrays war-disabled veterans. His second, War Victims (2009), shows the effects of the war on civilians and was published with the support of the International Committee of the Red Cross. His work has been exhibited several times at Silk Road Gallery, including in Trace (2014), a group exhibition on the human effects of war, alongside six other photographers.
