Babak Kazemi

Babak Kazemi is a self-taught photographer born in Ahvaz, Iran, in 1983. Working across media, he explores the history of Khuzestan, the province where he grew up, and the impact of oil production on the region. Drawing on Iranian mythology and on the country’s ancient and recent history, he creates staged photographic series. He works with historical printing processes such as cyanotype, collodion, salt printing and physautotype, choosing the material that best conveys what he wants to express. His work has been exhibited in Iran and internationally, and has been warmly received wherever it has been shown.
