Temporary (2004–2009) is a series of photographs of trees growing across Iran, made over five years.
My practice is shaped by a fascination with old photographs: their faded colours, softened details, and the faint traces of reality that linger on paper. Like shadows or halos of what once existed, they hold a quiet presence between memory and disappearance.
Though captured digitally, the images are printed on handmade paper, so that the transformation of trees into paper becomes part of the work. This carries a quiet contradiction: the trees are both the subject of the photographs and the material from which they are made. The tactile quality of the paper gives each print a physical presence beyond the image itself.
For me, photography is less a way of documenting what exists than of preserving traces of what may not remain. The title refers to this impermanence: of trees, of landscapes, of time itself. These images try to hold on to fleeting moments, knowing that neither the landscape nor our experience of it can stay unchanged.
