Retouch
Retouch draws on old family photo albums, those fragile, intimate archives of small prints that rarely exceed the so-called “normal size” of 10 × 15 cm. I have always found the term ironic, given how much these modest images once carried: entire lives, entire histories.
Printing family photographs was a quiet ritual of preservation, an act of love. Yet over time the images fade, yellow and blur, and some disappear altogether. In this series, I try to give these fragile memories new life by recreating them as miniature paintings at the exact size of the original photographs, using the finest brushes (sizes 000 to 00000).
Each painting seeks to preserve not only the image but its emotional imprint. Through colour, detail and care, I hope to prolong their existence and keep the past vivid and tender. None of the works exceeds 9 cm on its longest side, echoing the intimate scale of the memories they hold.
