Jalal Sepehr
Jalal Sepehr was born in Tehran in 1968, where he still lives and works. A self-taught photographer, he began taking pictures in 1994 while living in Japan. He started out in industrial and advertising photography before turning to fine art, and co-founded Fanoos Photo (2003–2007), a website devoted to promoting contemporary Iranian photography. In series such as Water & Persian Rugs, Knot and Red Zone, he uses the Persian rug as a symbolic element to explore history, memory and the upheavals of the Middle East. His work has been shown at Paris Photo with Silk Road Gallery, at the Rencontres d’Arles (Iran, Année 38, 2017), at Photo London and at festivals in Iran.
