Hawar Amini

Hawar Amini was born in 1981 in Marivan, in Iranian Kurdistan. He studied painting at the University of Art in Isfahan and holds a master’s degree in painting from Tarbiat Modares University in Tehran. His work moves between photography, painting and video. In his series Piaw, he photographed men from Kurdistan, then let the portraits turn into patterns and colours, so that the faces seem to carry the marks of history. He has had solo exhibitions at Silk Road Gallery and has shown his work in Tehran, London, Kuwait and Lyon, as well as at Art Dubai and the Abu Dhabi Art Fair. In 2008 he was selected for the 11th Iranian National Photo Biennial.
